The Market Street (Closure) (Guernsey) Law, 2002

 

THE STATES, in pursuance of their resolution of the 1st November, 2001[a], have approved the following provisions which, subject to the Sanction of Her Most Excellent Majesty in Council, shall have force of law in the island of Guernsey.

 

Permanent closure of parts of Market Street.

1.      (1)      From the appointed day -

 

(a)      the relevant parts of Market Street shall be closed and shall cease to be a public highway;

 

(b)      the relevant parts of Market Street shall be deemed to be controlled land for the purposes of the Vehicular Traffic (Control of Parking on Certain States Land) Ordinance, 1988[b]; and

 

(c)      the relevant parts of Market Street and the land upon which they run shall vest for an estate of inheritance in the States of Guernsey.

 

(2)      In this Law -

 

"appointed day" means the day appointed by order of the States Traffic Committee;

 

"the relevant parts of Market Street" means those parts of Market Street and Market Square in Saint Peter Port which are situated at or towards the eastern end of the Market Building and which are shown on the plan signed for the purposes of this Law by the Bailiff and lodged at the Greffe.

 

Amendment of Ordinance.

2.      In the schedule to the Vehicular Traffic (Control of Parking on Certain States Land) Ordinance, 1988, after item 11[c] insert the following entry -

 

"12.      The relevant parts of Market Street within the meaning of the Market Street (Closure) (Guernsey) Law, 2002.".

 

Citation.

3.      This Law may be cited as the Market Street (Closure) (Guernsey) Law, 2002.
