The Elections Ordinance, 2020

THE STATES, in pursuance of their Resolutions of the 25^th April, 2019[a], 12^th December, 2019[b], 15^th April, 2020[c] and 1^st July 2020[d], and in exercise of the powers conferred on them by Articles 29(3), 29(4), 34(11)(a) and 77B of the Reform (Guernsey) Law, 1948 as amended[e], and all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby order:-

General Elections to be held on 7^th October 2020 and in June 2025, and subsequent modifications of application of the Reform Law.

1. A General Election of People's Deputies ("the 2020 General Election") shall be held on 7^th October, 2020, and a further General Election of People's Deputies shall be held in June 2025; and accordingly the Reform (Guernsey) Law, 1948 shall apply as if modified as follows –

(a) in Article 26(2), for "2021" substitute "2020",

(b) in Article 29(1), for "in 2021 during the month of June" substitute "in 2020 during the month of October, in 2025 during the month of June," and immediately before "the 1^st day of July" insert "the 19^th day of October, 2020 (in respect of the persons elected at the General Election to be held in October, 2020), and otherwise on",

(c) in Article 29(2), for "the 30^th day of June, 2021" substitute "the 15^th day of October, 2020, and in the case of the General Election to be held on the 7^th day of October, 2020, until the 30^th day of June, 2025" , and

(d) in Article 29(2A) and Article 30(2), for "2021" substitute "2020".

Closure of Entries to Electoral Roll.

2. In relation to the 2020 General Election, the Electoral Roll shall be closed on 21^st August, 2020.

Repeal.

3. The Elections Ordinance, 2015[f] is repealed.

Citation.

4. This Ordinance may be cited as the Elections Ordinance, 2020.
