Users are advised to note that, with effect from 2^nd May, 2017, references in Guernsey legislation to marriage, married persons or persons who have been married, and to unmarried persons who are or have been living together as if they were married, and related references however expressed, shall be deemed to include same-sex marriage and persons who are or have been in a same-sex marriage or relationship, except where a contrary intention is expressed. Such references should be construed in accordance with sections 2 and 3 of the Same-Sex Marriage (Guernsey) Law, 2016. Contrary provision is made in the 2016 Law and in the Same-Sex Marriage (Consequential and Miscellaneous Amendments and Contrary Provisions) (Guernsey) Ordinance, 2017: those amendments have been incorporated into the consolidated texts on this website.
