The Social Security (Reciprocal Agreement with Ireland) Ordinance, 2007

THE STATES, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 113 of the Social Insurance (Guernsey) Law, 1978, as amended[a], and all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby order:-

Convention to have effect.

1. (1) The Convention on Social Security between the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the government of Ireland, signed at Dublin on the 14^th December, 2004[b] ("the Convention"), shall have full force and effect.

(2) The Social Insurance (Guernsey) Law, 1978 shall have effect subject to such modifications as may be required for the purpose of giving effect to the Convention.

Interpretation.

2. (1) The Interpretation (Guernsey) Law, 1948[c] applies to the interpretation of this Ordinance throughout the islands of Guernsey, Alderney, Herm and Jethou.

(2) References in this Ordinance to an enactment are references thereto as from time to time amended, re-enacted (with or without modification), extended or applied.

Extent.

3. This Ordinance extends to the islands of Guernsey, Alderney, Herm and Jethou.

Citation.

4. This Ordinance may be cited as the Social Security (Reciprocal Agreement with Ireland) Ordinance, 2007.

Commencement.

5. This Ordinance shall come into force on -

(a) the 25^th April, 2007, or

(b) if later, the day that the Convention comes into force.
