The Reform (Election of Conseillers) (Further Election) (Sark) Ordinance, 2023
WHEREAS, under the Reform (General Election) (Sark) Ordinance, 2022[a], the Chief Pleas appointed 14th December, 2022 as the date for a general election of Conseillers,
WHEREAS, after the time fixed for the making of nominations had expired, there was an insufficient number of candidates to fill the number of vacancies, and four vacancies remain,
WHEREAS therefore a further election is required pursuant to section 25(3) of the Reform (Sark) Law, 2008[b].
NOW THEREFORE THE Chief Pleas of Sark, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by sections 25(3), 25(5) and 29(6) of the Reform (Sark) Law, 2008, and all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby order:-
Date of further election.
1. (1) An election shall be held on 15th March 2023 for the purpose of electing four Conseillers.
(2) The date for a further election if required in the event of an equality of votes shall be 29th March, 2023.
Date of closure of register.
2. The Register of Electors shall close on 24th February, 2023.
Tenure of office.
3. Conseillers elected at the election held pursuant to section 1(1), or at any further election held pursuant to section 1(2), shall take up office on 31st March, 2023 (subject to having taken the oaths of allegiance and of office pursuant to section 30 of the Reform (Sark) Law, 2008 or having made a solemn affirmation pursuant to section 3 of the said Law) and shall continue in office until midnight on 14th January, 2027.
Citation.
4. This Ordinance may be cited as the Reform (Election of Conseillers) (Further Election) (Sark) Ordinance, 2023.
