Ordinance, 2016
 
THE CHIEF PLEAS OF SARK, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by sections 23, 25(5) and 29(6) of the Reform (Sark) Law, 2008[a], hereby order:-
 
Date of general election.
1.      (1)      The date for a general election for the purpose of electing fourteen Conseillers to replace those whose terms of office are due to expire on 12th January, 2017, and to fill any vacancies in accordance with section 23(11) of the Reform (Sark) Law, 2008 ("the 2008 Law"), shall be 14th December, 2016.
 
(2)      The date for a further election if required in the event of an equality of votes shall be 11th January, 2017.
 
Date of closure of register.
2.      The Register of Electors shall close, pursuant to section 29(6) of the 2008 Law, on 4th November, 2016.
 
Tenure of office.
3.      A Conseiller elected at the general election or at any further election held pursuant to section 1(2), and having taken the oaths of allegiance and of office pursuant to section 30 of the 2008 Law, or having made a solemn affirmation pursuant to section 3 of the said Law, shall continue in office until 14th January 2021.
 
Interpretation.
4.      (1)      The Interpretation (Guernsey) Law, 1948[b] applies to the interpretation of this Ordinance.
 
(2)      Any reference in this Ordinance to an enactment is a reference thereto as from time to time amended, re-enacted (with or without modification), extended or applied.
 
Citation.
5.      This Ordinance may be cited as the Reform (General Election) (Sark) Ordinance, 2016.
